Maurice weekend 014 comp

I’ve always loved Moggie Minors and particularly the Traveller or Woody as they often now get called.

Owning one is on my (extensive but largely unachievable) wish list, along with a ‘54 Chrysler New Yorker and Bond Mk G 3 wheeler Estate. I just adore the old Minors and for lots of reasons, not least being they hark back to an earlier time when life was simpler, the sun always shone and we chaps wouldn’t be seen dead without a trilby or for the more raffish, a fedora and of course, always smoking a pipe – now where’s my cut golden block…. so anyway a little while back we decided to try one out and hired a beautiful green Traveller for the weekend from the excellent Great Escape Cars. www.greatescapecars.co.uk.

Run by some really nice and all round helpful guys,  Great Escape Cars is located in Redditch and so is perfectly placed for starting a tour of some of the most picturesque towns and villages and stunningly beautiful countryside in the UK and that is what we did. Trundling through the Cotswolds at a steady 45mph, parping and waving at everyone we saw, I’d recommend it as the perfect antidote to everyday stress and certainly to motorway mile munching.

I’d also recommend the afternoon tea in Chateau Impney where we paused on the way up. Now this is definitely a place we plan to stay at some time soon. ChateauImpney
